What to Wear

Something to consider: clothing and accessory choice for a photo session really does make a difference in the end product of your photos-so take a few minutes to plan out your ensemble before the day of your session :)
Not quite sure what to wear for your photo session? Check out these tips below for some great ideas!
*First thing first- think about the look you are going for:  casual, funky, trendy, dressy, semi-dressy, glam, punk, average-joe, uber-dressy (like prom dress or tux), etc.  Then, consider the following:

For individuals:

Wear clothing and accessories that are bold, colorful and that have lots of texture. If you are going with a pattern, choose patterns that are bolder and bigger. Make a statement! :)
As I always tell my sister, “Accessories make the outfit!!” I love accessories (especially accessories with texture!) Accessories are a great way to put the finishing touches on your look!
These choices really help your personality to shine through and they add more interest to make the photograph more visually appealing.
Suggestions:
Textures: knitting, embroidery, buttons, ruffles, etc.
Accessories: hats, scarves, sunglasses, leg warmers, tutus, jewelry, headbands, hair bows, aprons, boots, wellies, fun or funky shoes, etc. Tip: Check out Etsy for some unique accessories.
I also have some vintage hats, newborn tutus, aprons, and scarves that you are welcome to use to complete your look.

For Siblings:
I would recommend not dressing siblings in the exact same outfit. You create less visual interest when people are dressed in the exact same thing, and I think that it takes away from your kiddo's individuality. I suggest choosing a few colors that compliment each other and sticking with that. Bright colors or darker, rich colors usually work the best. Try to stay away from light and pastel colors if you can. If you happen to feel very lost in the area of choosing appropriate clothing or accessories for your kiddo's photo session, I would check out Gap, Old Navy, Justice (for girls) or maybe a shop where you can find one of a kind styles. I also love Etsy-which is an online shop for things that are handmade- you can find some amazing things on there-especially accessories!

For Families:
I recommend pretty much the same for families as I do for siblings. Choose a few colors that go together and stick with that. Some accessories are good in family shots- but too many accessories can make a photo look cluttered. So in family shots, keep the accessories to a minimum, or only bolder accessories on a couple of the people. Think about who you want to emphasize in the photo. If it is the kiddos, let them wear the accessories while keeping mom and dad simple. Remember: for clothing and accessory choices (even in family shots), textures are still our friends! Don’t forget about them!

“These are more what you would call guidelines…” feel free to not follow them if you’ve got a great idea for clothing or accessory choice! And most importantly; feel good about your clothing choice- don’t wear something just because you think that’s what you should wear. Make sure you feel SASSY in it! When you feel good about yourself and the way you look, your photos will definitely turn out better. Own your look and be confident-you ARE really, really, really, ridiculously good looking!
